Hand-trimmed & Hand-watered
From our 4 hands straight to your bowl you cant find buds like these anywhere else. Our jars are full of freshly harvested large sticky, dense, and stinky nugs. We use traditional practices like watering by hand and hand trimming each bud. The difference is evident in how it burns, the flavor and cure.
Terp Experts
We LOVE terps! So much in fact we refer to ourselves as terp sluts. The terpenes are the essential oils that naturally occur in cannais plants. They interact with cannabinoids in whats called “the entourage effect” and that is what you feel in your head/body.
The way we grow by hand in organic living soil allows the plant to naturally bring out more terpenes. Many of our strains come in at 3.5% Terps – 5.5% Terps. These are some of the most thereuputic cannabis cultivars that exist.

Joe Giliam
Joe is the backbone and creator of The Hash Frontier Gardens, a brand he started from a single seed in his closet over 13 years ago. He has become renowned as one of Alaska’s most talented cultivators and arguably the best modern small-batch organic grower in the state. Known as Grow Joe, he is infamous for producing ‘Joe’s Head Stash.’ Joe is a perfectionist who never cuts corners in the garden, evident in the quality of his cannabis. When you try his products, you are experiencing a piece of Joe’s soul, as he pours everything into nurturing his plants.
As the other half of Highpothermia, Joe has invested his blood and sweat into creating an icy cold shopping experience. He masterminded the backlit LED counters, known as the Ice Cave, and spent over four years remodeling the shop from a dated 1970s brick building into a modern, Alaska-inspired space. Joe draws inspiration from his surroundings—snow, ice, and the freezing cold—to create a unique atmosphere that embodies the essence of Highpothermia.
Joe has been crafting exceptional cannabis full-time for over 13 years, gaining notoriety in the black market in Anchorage for his impressive and flavorful flower. As a legal cultivator, he continues to use the highest quality organic inputs, personally selecting all the genetics from seed and never trading clones or cuts. Joe is responsible for pheno-hunting the entire lineup of strains at The Hash Frontier Gardens, focusing on unique and rare qualities and terpenes rather than just yield and appearance. His small-batch approach ensures that his cannabis remains fresh, potent, and aromatic, with long-time customers praising its value and potency.
Joe is dedicated to the organic living soil movement, a dying art in an industry dominated by automated hydroponics and synthetic inputs. Unlike many cannabis businesses, Joe prioritizes quality over convenience, continuously adding complex food sources and techniques to enhance his cannabis’s quality, flavor, and efficacy. He enjoys educating consumers about the benefits of sustainable gardening and why his methods are in their best interest.
With Dutch roots and organic gardening knowledge passed down from his Mormon grandmother, Joe grew up in a large family of 11 in East Anchorage. He is incredibly proud to own a commercial building and cannabis dispensary near his childhood home. Joe has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, starting his first business as a child by offering snow shoveling and lawn mowing services. His proprietary techniques, commitment to consistency, and incredible work ethic have made him a successful small business owner and a respected member of the cannabis community.
In his free time, Joe enjoys fishing, camping, kayaking, snowboarding, skiing, biking, running, and embracing the Alaskan lifestyle. He is an Eagle Scout who loves cooking, listening to all genres of music, and taking care of his body. His favorite companions are his dogs, Buster and Toby. Joe hopes you enjoy his cannabis and feels honored to grow it from the earth with his two hands for you.
